Because every cup is handmade. The shape is formed by hand, the texture is applied manually, and the glaze is brushed on by hand. As a result, each piece has its own unique form, texture, and glaze expression.

Because I’m allergic to handles. Just kidding. In reality, I feel that while handles have become part of everyday culture, they take away from the purity of the design and remove an important tactile element. And tactile experience is something I’m deeply focused on in my work. As you can see, all our cups have texture — touching them, holding them in your hands is a separate kind of pleasure, beyond just visual aesthetics.

Since every cup is handmade, I personally control the wall thickness. The result is a perfect balance — thick enough to protect your fingers from heat, yet still able to maintain the temperature of the drink. For me, it’s important that our pieces bring not only visual but also tactile enjoyment.

Technically yes — but we don’t recommend it, as the outer glaze may contain metallic elements for visual effect, which can react unpredictably in a microwave.

This cup was made by Illia. It’s fully handmade from Ukrainian clay. All texturing is done by hand, sometimes using special loop tools. The glazing is applied with high-quality German BOTZ glazes using a brush to achieve a deeper and richer finish. So this is a fully handmade piece from start to finish. The full production process takes 1–2 months, including drying, double firing, and finishing (texturing and sanding).

You can wash our ceramics like regular tableware. This particular cup is technically dishwasher-safe, but we recommend washing it by hand, as the outer glaze may contain metallic elements that could slightly change color over time in a dishwasher. Not necessarily for the worse — but still something to be aware of.

We pack every order as securely as possible — safe delivery is our responsibility. If anything happens, it will be resolved between us and the shipping provider, as all parcels are fully insured. The customer bears no financial risk. Honestly, we don’t remember the last time anything was broken in transit.

With every cup, we include a home clay workshop kit: a piece of sculpting clay and a detailed laminated guide explaining how to shape, texture, dry, and work with clay. We do this so you can personally connect with the material your cup is made from.

The history of our handmade cups

Although a cup is the first thing that comes to people’s minds when they first encounter clay, it was not like that for me at all. My main passion at that time and at this moment is the tactile texture on handmade ceramics. At that time, we were just going through chawans and teaware, where people really appreciate the touch of ceramics, and only then did we come to handmade cups without handles, the kind that you want to hold in your hands for as long as possible and so that they look exclusive, cosmic, magical… So that they do not look like other handmade cups.

The number of defects among handmade cups

The thing is that the ceramic cup has the highest percentage of defects among almost all products from our family studio. Second place: coffee pourovers. The main nuance is that in others they are usually made by casting or on a potter’s wheel, and we not only do the texture or glazing with our own hands, but also sculpt the clay cup itself completely by hand. Therefore, they have a living form, a living unique texture, but a high percentage of defects due to the great depth of the molded product. The real figure is 35% of all cups do not survive to be sold, cracking during drying, exploding during the biscuit (first) firing, or cracking during the last glaze firing. Ceramic gods are capricious – that’s a fact.

What does tactile texture mean in handmade cups?

This means that our handmade cups do not have handles and handles precisely so that you can hold the texture of the cup with your hands, because this is what gives completely new sensations from such a familiar object as a ceramic cup. That was the point. All our textures are like a tactile code of our handmade ceramics. In order not to burn your fingers, we made our products quite thick walls, so they are comfortable to hold in your hands, and an additional bonus was that their strength has seriously increased.

Are your handmade cups suitable as a gift?

They were conceived as a mug for everyone. Here, the point is not even to give a real modern Ukrainian craft, but to make this product a new level in something, in anything, even if it is handmade cups and I’m not kidding. This is how it works with us, because you are in a direct connection with our products, you feel them without a barrier in the form of a handle, you better understand what ceramics and glaze are to the touch.
