Ode to ELF CHA – the first tea set for ceremonies

Published by admin on

This is not just a tea set for ceremonies from which all our handmade teaware began, moreover, at one time it was an extremely important timely and synchronous leap on the path of finding our own style, this “artifactism” of KERRA. Therefore, in a sense, ELF CHA created us while we were creating it. And now it is our bestseller, which we have made more than all other ceremonial tea sets. Are you bored? Oh no, each copy of the green tea set Elf Cha is unique and special in shape, texture, pattern and glaze opening! We are still improving it, optimizing the shape of the lid, spout and filter mesh built into the gaiwan. For us, it is like a legendary car model from our concern, it only needs to be made better with each new batch.

But on a mental, subtle level from the point of view of the KERRA universe, this tea set created the concept of a fairy tale for the ceramic product as a whole and set a trend for us with the mythologizing of production. And what is most interesting is that it happened after we actually exchanged the first “elf cha” gaiwan with forest elves from the Kyiv region. By the way, the elves were there too, but we tried not to talk to them, because our heads were spinning, and we were there for work purposes. After we received a “zero” copy from them, we were able to model an identical artifact, but already from Ukrainian clay and German glaze. And so the Ukrainian production of elven sets for the Chinese tea ceremony appeared.

I always repeat: this green one, all green ones are green, there is no need to look for a second one. A real hetman of the green palette. Mr. Alligator. It was for the sake of such colors that I took the risk of using effect glazes, and there is always a risk with them, because they flow in the kiln constantly and it is very difficult to predict. Effect glazes are a complex mixture of colors, which each time, each brush stroke gives a unique composition of the relationship between them. Effect glaze is a color that is not just ambiguous, it is multi-valued and multilayered: very deep, almost trippy. What is important here is what we ourselves feel when we take it out of the kiln after firing. Every time we admire each gaiwan, each incredibly green handmade tea set. This is not just ceramic glaze. This is a real art in itself and I want to assure you that the ability to apply this glaze correctly is a separate art.

First reviews of the elven tea set

A fairy-tale tea set for fairy-tale ceremonies… That’s what the first recipients called it. At exhibitions, tea lovers would come up and look at it as an exhibit and be very, very surprised that it was Ukrainian handmade and that we had made it. And in general, in the entire history of making elven tea, we have heard the best and longest reviews about it. This should not be surprising, but the fact is that they are really completely different. And the reviews are very similar, permanently positive, as if the elven spirit itself lives from one forest green specimen to another more coniferous green specimen.

How unique is each of them? Quite significantly, we can even shoot a video for you to choose from before sending. But what can we say, if even each bowl of it is a unique, unrepeatable, non-replicated product. I repeat once again, it’s all hand-sculpted, which is why elf cha evokes so many emotions even from photos, and even more so when held in your hands… They are like living artifacts that, like stones, are never the same.

What makes it better than a regular Chinese tea set?

If we start with practical features, I want to make a list:

  • firstly, it has a spout, a regular gaiwan simply doesn’t have one, so pouring is not so convenient and requires skill and experience.
  • secondly, we don’t forget about the thickness of the walls, which really keeps the temperature and doesn’t burn your fingers when you hold the dishes, in Chinese tea sets the thickness is sometimes absurdly and unreasonably thin, because it becomes inconvenient to use.
  • thirdly, when you hold it in your hand, there is some unusual, very interesting and deep feeling that usually doesn’t arise from ceramic products. There is a certain intimacy of the moment…
  • it is also worth mentioning that instead of cheap Chinese glazes, we use expensive German spectacular glazes of the highest quality + rare Ukrainian clay, which, not only in my opinion, but also in the opinion of many masters, is the best clay in Europe in terms of price-quality-reliability
  • but still, the main thing is that it is also elven.

Frequently asked questions about the green tea set

Is it seasonal?

Oh yes, elven tea is sold seasonally. Peak periods in summer and winter. Like this. But if you consider that it is drunk in Bali, China and the States, then seasonality is relative.

Does it appeal to women or men more?

The same.

Is it more often taken for yourself or given as a gift?

This is a difficult question. Equally difficult is it possible to consider buying such a tea set as a gift to yourself?)

Fresh set of ELF CHA

Will the coating not come off?

No, the coating does not come off. Each elf tea set is covered with high-quality German glaze.

Can it be washed in the dishwasher?

No teaware can not, should not and does not make sense to wash in the dishwasher. Tea itself is much softer and is a useful antiseptic for clay. You can wash the dishes with just clean water, this will be enough.

If you have any additional questions, you can ask me by phone or in messenger (preferably Telegram). There is also something to read in the article extraordinary teaware.
