Because high-quality Chinese tea is brewed using multiple infusions. This means the same leaves are steeped many times, and the essence of a tea ceremony is to taste each infusion, noticing how the flavor and aroma evolve. That’s why tea cups are small (compared to regular mugs) — you’ll typically drink 6–10 cups in one session. If they were regular-sized cups, no one would make it through the ceremony. The volume of our cups is carefully calibrated — something tea enthusiasts often point out. It’s no coincidence: I’ve been deeply into tea for over 15 years and know from experience exactly how many sips a proper tea cup should hold.

Because every cup is handmade. The shape is formed by hand, the texture is applied manually, and the glazing is done with a brush. This results in each piece having its own unique form, texture, and glaze expression.

50–100 ml depending on the model. That’s just a few sips — enough to fully experience the flavor and aroma of each infusion.

Since every cup is handmade, I personally control the thickness. The walls are balanced perfectly: thick enough to protect your fingers from heat, yet capable of maintaining the temperature of the tea.

This cup was made by Illia. It’s fully handmade from Ukrainian clay. All texturing is done by hand, sometimes using special loop tools. The glazing is applied with high-quality German BOTZ glazes using a brush, which allows for a deeper and richer glaze expression. So this cup is entirely handmade from start to finish. The full production process takes 1–2 months, including drying, double firing, and finishing (texturing and sanding).

Teaware for high-quality Chinese tea is traditionally washed without detergents — only with water. For Chinese tea culture, using soap can even feel inappropriate. However, if needed, you can wash our ceramics like regular tableware.

We pack every order as securely as possible — safe delivery is our responsibility. If anything gets damaged due to unforeseen circumstances, it will be handled between us and the shipping carrier, as all parcels are fully insured. The customer bears no financial risk. Honestly, we don’t remember the last time anything was broken in transit.

With every tea cup, we include a home clay workshop kit: a piece of sculpting clay and a detailed laminated guide explaining how to shape, texture, dry, and work with clay in general. We do this so you can personally connect with the material your tea cup is made from.

Tea bowls as the key to the tea ceremony

For us, all handmade ceramics began with tea bowls for Chinese tea. I had a desire to make Ukrainian tea bowls the way we see them as soon as I first picked up clay. At that time, I had my own tea shop, it was more than 10 years ago, and as now, I was very fond of Chinese tea and the tea ceremony in its various formats (I mentioned the formats in our blog). It is important to repeat that each of our tea bowls and tea sets is 100% handmade, which means that each product is an original and separate work of art, molded in a certain mood, with a certain attempt, so all tea bowls have a unique appearance: texture, glaze opening and even a little shape. This makes them truly unique.

Why is the tea ceremony bowl so small?

There is a good saying: “less is more” – this is exactly about all teaware and tea bowls for a tea ceremony. And about the whole approach to the ceremony from the point of view of tea culture. It doesn’t matter what is in front of you: a bowl for pu-erh or for oolong, the product in your hands will have a small volume (as for our everyday table life). Such a volume is due to the fact that during a tea ceremony, tea is drunk in spills, in the sense that it is brewed several times (from 3 to 10). Therefore, in order to try each spill and track how the taste profile of the tea changes, we need a small tea bowl. In our catalog there are 50 ml bowls, 60 ml tea bowls, and 100 ml ceramic bowls, there is even a mini tea bowls, the volume of which does not exceed 30 ml. If necessary, we will help you choose the right size, but as a rule, the main factor is how many people you plan to hold tea ceremonies for most often.

What is the difference between a ceramic and a clay tea bowl?

Clay is the material from which each of our tea bowls is made. And ceramics is clay that has been fired in a kiln. This is what the dictionary says. In fact, people usually mean that a clay bowl is not covered with glaze, while a ceramic tea bowl is covered with glaze. You can read more about glazes on our blog. We can say that all of our tea ceremony bowls are both clay and ceramic.

    Why your tea bowls?

Because there is a difference between cheap Chinese ceramics and Ukrainian craft, and tea bowls from these two categories will feel different in the hand, please the eye differently, and the tea itself will taste different from them. All our teaware is hand-sculpted from Ukrainian clay and hand-brushed with expensive, spectacular German glazes for a deeper color reveal on our textures. That’s why it causes a wow effect. And that’s why our tea ceremony dishes are not just dishes, they are an incredible aesthetic and high-quality gift for yourself or your loved ones. You can order our tea bowls by adding the copies you like to your cart or you can simply write to us in the chat in the lower left corner, or call the phone number listed in the header of the site. We will be happy to advise you on any questions.
